Employee Wellness Saves A Lot Of Money

Reports come in all the time about how much it is costing business and the country when people are sick. The costs involved for taking care of medical conditions and the staggering salaries being paid for people who are sick have combined into a serious problem for everyone.

Businesses today are very concerned about employee wellness and many of them are starting to realize that sick employees are costing them millions of dollars every year. This has made many companies sit up and take notice and to evaluate what exactly is keeping their employees home sick and if there is anything they can do about it.

 

Employee wellness is a new buzz word but one that is being accepted by mainstream employers and even the Federal Government realizes this. Taking care of the special health needs of their employees is very prudent and this is now considered to be a major perk when companies are recruiting new people.

Some companies started out small when it came to providing for employee wellness issues. They started small health clinics where employees could go to get assistance with a minor problem, to get their allergy shots, obtain special medical tests or to just learn more about certain medical conditions.

These health clinics were a major success and companies began to realize that they were on to something when it came to employee wellness. Many formed committees that are required perform extensive research and surveys and come up with suggestions about how the company could improve employee wellness.

Today, more and more companies and the Federal Government offer exercise centers in their buildings for a minimal fee. They see more employees are actually exercising during their lunch breaks or before/after work. The added benefits to their health are definitely outweighed by the insignificant costs.

Other organizations have created employee counseling units where people can get more information about a variety of topics and even help with addictions such as smoking. There is even a trend for more flexible work schedules and for work at home programs. Employee wellness is definitely on the increase as more and more people are getting help while at work.

If your company or office does not have an employee wellness plan in effect, you should consider making a suggestion for them to develop one. The added benefits to the overall health of the employees will definitely save the company money.

It might corny, but employee wellness is big business today and your staff will take advantage of any opportunities that you may provide to them at work. Some employees might be a bit suspicious at first, but when they see their coworkers losing weight and becoming more physically fit; they might get on the bandwagon.
