Wellness Is A Strange Word

Wellness 

This definitely sounds a like a strange new word that probably has a special meaning to the younger generation. But do not fool yourself! Wellness is the overall package of your own personal health and fitness. Combining everything together into one package that is called 'wellness'.

When you think about your personal health you are probably thinking about your annual physical examinations and talking to your doctor. You learn about the latest developments in the medical field and have a chance to learn more everyday. In the normal physical examination, your doctor takes specimens and draws blood and these are sent out to be analyzed in a special laboratory.

The call comes in from your doctor's office staff that they want to schedule a follow up appointment to go over the result. There is nothing to worry about, but regardless, this is not a common occurrence for you.

The time has arrived and you are anxiously waiting to meet with your doctor to go over your test results. You have a good discussion with him and learn that you are basically in good health, but that the tests have shown several areas of potential concern. So, you are thinking that everything is good and you can go on as before-that is until your doctor smashes that thought.

You are reminded of your family history of high blood pressure, high cholesterol and the potential for strokes. But, you are only 46 years old and in the prime of your life. You have a great job, a good family and everything is fine. Or, so you thought.

The concept of wellness today is more than just learning about the results from your medical examinations. Wellness is an entire package that rounds out the physical, mental and spiritual components in your life. Today you seem healthy, but you are a leading a lifestyle that is definitely going to be bad for you in the long run.

Now is definitely the time to start watching your diet and eating healthier foods. Your overall wellness package should also include a structured exercise plan that you can stick to and continue doing for the rest of your life. Gee, now this sounds awful. Having to watch what you eat and start exercising more will just be a terrible drag.

When you stop and think about the prospects in the concept of wellness, you should think about what you want your future life to be like. Do you want to be old and sick? Or, do you want to be one of those active senior citizens that seem to be going to and fro constantly.

The choice is yours, and you need to decide today about your own future personal wellness.
